Paradigms[]

Heroes: The men are all hot of the Alpha Badass variety and are known in-book as the Hot Bunch.  They are all friends, family, and/or employees of Lee Nightingale and work as PIs or in law enforcement.

Heroines: The women are known as the Rock Chicks; through the first few books the women join the storyline because of their ties to Fortnum's bookstore and Indy Savage (owner), but in later book they join the Rock Chicks through previous relationships to the hot bunch.  The eighth and final Rock Chick book will break this trend.  In it, Ally, the heroine, is related to Lee, and Ren, the hero, joins the circle because of previous relationships with other characters in the series.

Plots: In each book, the hero chooses the heroine immediately as their love interest and spends the intial part of the book moving the relationship forward extremely quickly.  The Rock Chicks respond to this intense courtship by trying to first deny and then slow down the relationship, with universally little success.  In the meantime, the heroines are in signifcant danger, and the heroes spend much of the book trying to both protect their love interest while sorting out the underlyng problem to end the danger.  Part way through the book, the women admit their love for the hero, but the romantic arc continues as the couple learns to deal with underlying issues and settle into their relationship.  Through it all, the main couple is surrounded by friends and family who both care and interfere.

Although this pattern is repeated through all the books, each heroine and couple have different issues to deal with both in their relationship and as the cause of their danger.
